Bubble Tea and Teacher Training at the Grand Hyatt

The Community MVPs rang in December with a fun field trip to DC’s lovely Grand Hyatt.  Staff from the hotel’s restaurant, Cure, and from the human resources department helped to make our experience very enjoyable.  Four lucky ladies were chosen to stay behind to do a “secret” workshop with managers from Cure while the rest of the group was led on a tour of the hotel.

Stephanie, who works in Human Resources at the hotel, was the guide for our tour.  We saw back of the house set ups and met some of the workers.  We went through the very large main kitchen and learned about all the different events and tasks they have to help the hotel function.   To top it off we were able see the Presidential Suite!  It was a privilege to get a view of such a special room.

Jonna, Nnedimma, Monicía and Mia stayed behind in the conference room and learned how to mix a “cocktail” (non- alcoholic of course).  Ken, the General Manager, did a mini-workshop on training and teaching how to make a drink.  When the rest of the class returned the newly trained “trainers” taught small groups of their peers how to make lavender mango bubble tea.   They followed the steps “tell, do, teach, review”.  After the training session the trainees set off on their own to make the winning cocktail.  Ken did a taste test and decided on the winning group.  Congratulations to Armonté, Monicía and Wendy for making the winning tea, they will attend a free lunch at Cure as a prize for their delicious cocktail!  We send a big thank you to the staff at the Hyatt and Cure for making our experience so enjoyable.
