Brainfood’s 2016-2017 programs up and running!

With the start of a new school year and the fall colors moving into the District, we have welcomed roughly 120 students into this year’s Brainfood programming. Both Cooks in Training at Chinatown and Columbia Heights and Community Cooking Coaches at Mount Vernon Square have filled our kitchens with laughter, learning, and delicious foods.

Our staff have had a very busy fall– recruiting at 9 different DC high schools, hosting over 200 students at our orientation sessions, and welcoming a wonderful batch of weekly classroom volunteers, as well as participating in the DC State Fair, Taste of DC, and Osteria Morini’s Annual Pig Roast. We’ve also welcomed new staff (myself included!) and welcomed current staff into new roles.

It’s easy to say we’ve had a full fall thus far, but the fullness has brought many wonderful opportunities and experiences to Brainfood staff, volunteers, and students. Personally, I have found much joy in this new family, and cannot wait for the adventures of this year to unfold. Keep up with us on our website, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, for tales from the kitchen and beyond. Many thanks to all who continue to support us in what we do!
